The Mobility Scooter is pretty handy for getting around the ship as well a going ashore in those ports that will allow it. The three wheel variety has a tighter turning radius compared to the four wheel variety which makes it a better choice for a ship’s narrow aisles. But this article is about one of the additions to a scooter that make it possible to use the scooter in a food serving line. There needs to be way of carting dishes and food around on the scooter. My unoriginal thought was to take the food tray off my Rollator and mount on top my mobility carts’ front basket. I had put the tray on my Rollator several years ago when we we on a cruise and plates kept threatening to fall off my Rollator’s narrow width seat. It had worked out perfectly, I could carry dishes thru the serving lines and older ladies told me how clever I was.
The Scooters’ front front basket normally is suitable for carrying a glass with a drink but there needs to be a different solution for food lines. The food is all within reach but there is no place to put a plate of food or a bowl of anything. If the one of the ideas of a mobility scooter is increased independence then concept fails at the food line. Adding a small serving tray alleviates the food serving line problem. Your problem than becomes saying a polite “No thank you” to helpful crew members and complete strangers. If they are insistent you can always let them help you.

The tray itself is an 12″ X 17″ Acacia wood tray I bought some where on the internet and the bungee cord I bought from from some where on the internet as well. This particular size tray happened to fit my Rollator’s seat almost perfectly.

All most any 17″ or 18″ bungee will do although on some you will have to twist the hook around 180 degrees so that it fit easier on the tray. If you don’t have an adjustable bungee cord, then you can tie some knots in it to remove some of the slack

The Freewink’s basket is a little low so a foam or cardboard block could be placed in the basket to raise the tray. Raising the basket would be a little too much aggravation.
